Become a Better Skier, Snowboarder or Skater – Olympics Inspired Strategies
We watch these amazing athletes like Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn, and Bode Miller tearing up the slopes in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and the next thing you know we’re booking a ski vacation. The Olympics motivate and inspire us. All over the world skiers are opting for black diamonds, baby boomers are trading their skis for snowboards, parents are enrolling their toddlers in ski school and amateurs are attempting the half-pipe. I’m pretty sure hockey tickets just got harder to get too. Are you looking to step up your game? Skiers, Snowboarders and Skaters: There are ways to guarantee improved performance on the slopes or the ice! Practice is key, but even if you don’t have a mountain or an ice rink nearby, you can be well-prepared to for your next ski trip with a little homework. You cannot ski, snowboard or skate well without leg strength and balance. Even if you have strong legs, you are useless without good balance. Put some time and work into it at home and you won’t believe the difference in your agility, ability, control and confidence on the slopes

Mustard Greens Mozzarella Munchies
When my favorite greens are not in-season I buy them frozen, that are convenient and nutritious at the same time. Contributing generously to the daily need of fiber (5grams in each cup i.e 4 ounce of the green used) and packed with others nutrients of the mildly bitter mustard greens, these cheesy green munchies are quick to assemble and appeasing to the hunger pangs

Can Spring Be Far Behind?
After 55 inches of snow this year, a new record here in Washington, D.C./Arlington since 1899, it feels strange to think that it is almost March and that, despite the mounds of snow everywhere (there are still some large 5 -6 feet tall mounds) Spring is just around the corner! Spring means new jewelry – LOTS of new jewelry! And the Spring colours this year are wonderful, or at least I think so, probably because one of the biggest colours for Spring is my favorite – turquoise.

Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu
“Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” should be repeated every hour on the hour by every school child all over the world until it becomes the mantra of all societies. It is Bantu for “A human is human because of other humans.” The simple but profound adage is the theme of Chinua Achebe’s collection of essays, The Education of a British-Protected Child: Essays. It may also be the theme of his life’s work, judging by the simple message it conveys about the importance of the communal aspirations of the peoples of Africa.

The Rise-and-Shine Discussion
With my stint in Houston a few days behind me, and a much needed vacation stretching out before me, all I’m left with are the few freelance jobs I’ve taken on to keep me busy. So waking up early is….well, just an option. I can meander from under my covers as early (or late) as I want, and while enjoying the benefits of my new found liberty, I wondered how the rest of Blog Catalog feels about waking up. The discussion topic this week was simply, “What’s the First Thing You Do When You Wake Up?”. The responses came in a pretty wide variety. Going pee first thing was a trending response, as was saying a quick prayer. HaplessHermit even said he cries first thing in the morning. But the most common answer seemed to be ignoring (or abusing) that good ole faithful alarm clock. Scenexg responded that he’ll “hit the snooze button 7 times” before he gets out of bed every morning. Jaspuri chimed in that his alarm, which is an app on his mobile phone, won’t allow him to hit the snooze button until he’s solved a maze and a math puzzle! My praises go out to Jaspuri for having more strength than I. I punch my blackberry when it doesn’t open Google fast enough, I can only imagine what I’d do if it wouldn’t shut up at 5 AM
