I Love to Create: Sparkly Bow Necklace
While visiting family last month, I flipped through a copy of Elle Magazine and came across the Kate Spade Bow Necklace. It made me smile in all of it’s kitschy glory; also inspiring me to create a less-blingy, more affordable, ribbon version. I think the result is an adorable, vintage-style bit of sparkle that makes the perfect accessory to wear to those holiday parties

It’s National Lager Day!
Today (December 10) is National Lager Day! Join me in raising a glass to celebrate this underrated beer style. Lagers differ from ales in that they are brewed with bottom-fermenting yeast, while ales are brewed with top-fermenting yeast; the yeast settles on the bottom of the fermentation chamber as it transforms the hops and malt into liquid gold. After brewing, lagers are stored for a period of time to mature, hence the name: ‘lager’ is German for storage

Appliance industry agrees to third-party testing of energy claims, but test procedures should be updated, too
Even as the typical household appliance sold in this country has grown more energy and/or water efficient, the way the energy use of those appliances is measured and how those measurements are regulated have some flaws: • Some energy-use-test procedures, as developed by the appliances industry and implemented by the U.S. Department of Energy, are out of date.

"Cash for caulkers" aims to boost energy efficiency of U.S. homes
Cash for caulkers targets home energy savings. During his speech yesterday about job creation and the economy, President Barack Obama announced at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., that he's “calling on Congress to consider a new program to provide incentives for consumers who retrofit their homes to become more energy efficient, which we know creates jobs, saves money for families, and reduces the pollution that threatens our environment.” The initiative, to be paid for by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 , has been dubbed “cash for caulkers.” It's another example of clunkernomics , which now includes the U.S
