Before I went to Iraq with my friend and fellow God’s Politics contributor Shane Claiborne , I was trying to figure out how to take the lessons I would learn there back home.  I felt certain (and now know) that the experience…

Budget. Obama will propose a $3.8 trillion budget for fiscal 2011 that projects the deficit will shoot up to $1.6 trillion this year, but would push the deficit down to about $700 billion, or 4% of the gross domestic product, by 2013. Haiti.

Moses 8 Verse 9: The Hebrew of Genesis 5:29 shows us that Noah’s name means “rest.” How does his father, Lamech, explain the name? Is Noah’s name significant to the story of the flood? Verses 19-21: Why don’t the people listen to Noah?

As always, remember that these are questions for studying the reading assigned more than for planning the lesson itself. Even then, you are certainly going to find more questions here than you can deal with in one study session, though not, perhaps, more than you can deal with in a week. However, that said, the lesson itself has turned out to be more than I could deal with in a week

Some in Washington would have us believe that immigration reform is politically untenable and economically illogical. However, God is on the move among Christians who care about the immigrants in their midst.

title pic Church Land Buy

The Church has reportedly just purchased a couple large plots of land in downtown Salt Lake, including “a 10-acre block directly north of the Little America Hotel and another 2- to 3-acre parcel directly north of the Grand America Hotel. The parcels are across from each other on either side of Salt Lake City’s Main Street.” It currently seems to be just two large parking lots.  The official word is that it’s a long-term investment and the Church has no immediate plans for development. Any idle speculation as to what the Church might use the land for
