PETA’s campaign to stop plans by biological supply company Bioculture to build a monkey-breeding facility in Guayama, Puerto Rico, just got another shot in the arm, courtesy of CNN Headline News’ Jane Velez-Mitchell. In an update to a story that originally broke on Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell back in July, PETA Vice President Kathy Guillermo appeared on the show along with Puerto Rican Senator Melinda Romero to talk about the controversy surrounding Bioculture’s plans to tear wild monkeys out of their native home in Mauritius, lock them up in cages, and sell their offspring to laboratories

Hey, NBC: We’d like to know … if a family-friendly announcement against abusing turkeys (who live in dark, ammonia-filled sheds where workers clip their beaks, break their legs and wings, and crush their heads) doesn’t meet your standards, then what does? When we first submitted our newest commercial to NBC in the hopes of running it during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the station asked us to give more information about the cruelty behind turkey slaughter to back up the statements made in the ad.

 Homeless Animals Receive Special Holiday Gift

This week Windsor, North Carolina, officials cut the red ribbon that wrapped PETA’s very special gift to animals in this small Southern town. For nearly a decade, PETA has been working with Windsor and other area towns to provide homeless animals in their care with better housing conditions and a peaceful end when euthanasia is the most humane option . In 2000, PETA was alerted by a caring police officer to terrible suffering and appalling conditions at several “animal shelters” in North Carolina , some of which were nothing more than outdoor shacks, like the one in Windsor.
