title pic Sewing Green

A couple of months ago I snagged a copy of Betz White’s gorgeous, Sewing Green; a book that seems to be the seamstress soul-sister to Adrienne’s and my book, AwareKnits. It’s fresh, full of lovely projects, and jam-packed with green-goodness! I dig it so much, I thought I’d share a glimpse of just a few of my favorite pieces that have me inspired to eco-sew this season.Luxe Baby Hat and

Having posted about atheism recently on the SciScoop science forum, it seems quite apt to have received for review a couple of books with a religious theme at this time of year. The first is The Faith Instinct by Nicholas Wade. Wade is a well-known New York Times writer who presents the case for an evolutionary origin to religious faith

title pic Myrrh, bones, and medical waste

Hepatic epiphany for myrrh – A statistical analysis of experimental data on laboratory animals shows that the resin of the middle-eastern tree Commiphora, better known as “myrrh” can act as a protective antioxidant against liver damage caused by organic lead compounds. Myrrh is a rust-coloured resin obtained from several species of Commiphora and Balsamodendron tree, native to the Middle East and Ethiopia. It is perhaps best known as one of the gifts of the Magi offered to the infant Jesus, along with gold and frankincense in the Christmas legend.

title pic Chris Brown Disses Walmart, Stops Tweeting

After a Walmart store in Wallingford, Connecticut sold out of its first shipment of Chris Brown’s latest CD Graffiti, Brown accused the store of “blackballing” his records and “lying to costumers [sic].” After going on a 140-character tirade on micro-blogging site Twitter about the incident, then realizing he was in the wrong, he took down his Twitter account on Monday, after refusing to take back his statement. “Yeah i said it and i aint retracting [it],” Tweeted Brown. The testy Tweet originated after Brown went to a Walmart store in Wallingford, Connecticut where he did not see his album on the shelf and apparently was told that it was not in the back either

Kate Moss sits down with Women’s Wear Daily’s Brid Costello to discuss her new scent Vintage, which was introduced in Europe earlier this month. Stephen Mormoris, svp of global marketing at Coty said they may look into having Moss create a special color cosmetics collections for its Rimmel brand, which Moss also fronts.  On the fragranceąs genesis her love for vintage fashion has much more humble origins. I couldn’t really afford designer clothes when I was young, so I just went to the secondhand shops

title pic Hit The Slopes (But Not Too Hard) In The Coolest Snowboard Gear Out There!

The fashion-obsessed shopper side of me likes to think of snowboarding as an opportunity to try colors and patterns that I wouldn’t normally wear. Strangely enough, I never knew white pants were my thing until I saw them in snowboarding gear form. (I also never knew my legs could twist in so many directions while wearing said pants, but that’s another story.) You don’t necessarily need to match your jacket and pants to your gear, though a little bit of coordination is always good (both in the sartorial sense and the, um, sliding down a mountain sense).

Bryan Bedder/Getty Images A womb is just about all twins Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge , 5 ½ months, have ever had in common, according to mom Sarah Jessica Parker . The 44-year-old actress proclaimed the girls “about as un-identical as twins can be” during a Tuesday visit to the Late Show with David Letterman , citing their differences “physically, intellectually, spiritually, geographically, politically, ideologically and religiously.” Sarah Jessica went on to joke, “One of them is a Republican, which is weird. But we have Mets and Yankees fans in our house too, so we’re used to a divided house.” There isn’t much division between son James Wilkie , 7, and the twins thus far

I don’t know about you, but I have a tendency to purchase too much wine. In truth this can be both a blessing and a curse.
