2010 International Builders’ Show Product Preview: GE Smart Appliances
Proponents of the smart grid hope it will pave the way for real-time electricity pricing, enabling you to lower your utility bills by powering down appliances during peak demand periods when the kilowatt-hour cost of electricity is at its highest. But what if your appliances could make those cost-savings adjustments on their own? That's the brave new world proposed by GE's new smart appliances.

2010 International Builders’ Show Product Preview: Kohler Archer One-Piece Toilet
Some of the low-flow models we tested for our latest report on toilets were less-than-stellar performers. But water shortages and price increases for water make low-flow toilets and the possible savings they can deliver appealing. Kohler's one-piece Archer toilet uses a canister (instead of the usual flapper) and a wide trap way that the manufacturer claims will improve flushing performance.

2010 International Builders’ Show Product Preview: Schlage SecureKey
<br> Schlage has unveiled an improved rekeying process for its SecureKey door locks, which is designed to let you safely grant temporary access to guests or contractors without having to change the lock afterward. Earlier versions of the SecureKey and Kwikset’s SmartKey required you to use added tools or complex sequences of turns to rekey a lock. Schlage claims that the new keys are 10 times more secure from duplication than other rekeyable locks and more resistant to picking and bump keys .
