After spending a gorgeous weekend in New York City with our favorite plastic laminated fold out map , I was reminded that despite living in a high tech age where GPS navigating with technology is becoming more and more common, a child’s natural interest in maps provides a wonderful opportunity to reinforce spatial skills, math, and geography.

Tech Savvy Guest: Travel the World Virtually with ProjectExplorer.org
One of the most powerful things about the world wide web is the way it brings information from all over the globe into our home. I can look up the weather in Cannes, find pictures of the erupting volcano in Iceland for Little Miss Techie, and take a virtual field trip to Egypt to show our kids where their grandparents just traveled.

Meatless Monday’s Vegetable Bibimbap
Many of us still find ourselves teetering on the edge of winter and spring. In Seattle, one day we’re outside grilling, the other we’re inside yet again pulling out the slow cooker we thought we’d packed away for its long slumber

Avocado Toast for Meatless Monday
Here’s a toast to another Meatless Monday ! Back in high school, I was introduced to “avocado toast” for breakfast. At the time it sounded kind of strange; to smash avocado on toasted bread and sprinkle it with salt and garlic powder, but after one bite , I was sold on the salty, creamy and crunchy gorgeousness that is avocado toast

I Love to Create: Craft Corps Virtual Exhibit Submissions Wanted!
Over the past few days I worked on making a fabric collage in honor of Craft Corps and all of the amazing people I’ve gotten to chat with (for the book) or read about (on the website). I knew the focal point would be the call-to-action, stenciled logo to represent the project itself but I wanted to overall piece to reflect at least a little of my story in creating Craft Corps.

Proper skin care can mean the difference between a good day and a very painful one. Here are links to products that we hope will bring you blissfully fast healing relief from eczema, fungal infections, diaper dermatitis, sunburns and more: Remedies for Common Skin Problems Eczema is very common and there are several medical grade and OTC skin care eczema remedies on the market. Eczema is a family of skin conditions but is generally described as inflammation or dermatitis of the upper layers of the skin. It can be found in adults or children and it is not contagious. Eczema is characterized by itchy, red, dry skin on the face, hands, feet, elbows, knees or arms. Fungal Infections – Most superficial fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, yeast infections and ringworm can be cured with topical antifungal medication placed directly on the affected area. Fungal infections are very common and grow best in warm moist environments so be careful and stay dry! Symptoms range from peeling, scaling redness to itching and burning and/or blisters and sores. Check with your doc if you’re not sure what you have. See all Antifungals Diaper Dermatitis (Diaper Rash) or other itchy skin irritations caused by moisture can be soothed, prevented and even cured with the help of incontinence washes , perineal cleansers and moisture barrier creams. Diabetic Skin Care is important for people with diabetes because of the potential for a variety of skin conditions . Awareness is also key because reduced circulation and nerve sensitivity can make it hard to identify skin problems as they arise. Moisturizers are also important for those with diabetes because high blood glucose results in loss of fluid in the body. Dehydration can quickly lead to dry skin which can crack and invite nasty germs in, causing infections. Out of control infections can result in terrible problems including amputation. All preventable with daily skin care! See all Diabetic Skin Care Products See all Diabetic Supplies Dry Skin prevention and correction can be managed with daily moisturizers . Rub lotion into damp skin after every bath or shower to seal in moisture and ensure great looking skin all year long.

My favourite chemistry things
Sceptical Chymist tells me (via Twitter) that they were enjoying the favourite things about chemistry meme started by ChemJobber and continued by Azmanam (known to Sciencebase readers for his chemical spelling dictionary and the C+EN team . As is the wont of meme creators, you pay it forward and have to come up with your own “list” or whatever. Skeptical Chymist had, “The smell of ethyl acetate (in the morning)”, Peter Atkins’ textbooks, the elements song, and freaky glassware and the prowess of glassblowers on their list of ten favourite things about chemistry

Bonjour from….
As many of you may know, I was supposed to embark on m y World Tour this week by attending several events held at the Cannes Film Festival. While t his sounded like a spectacular opportunity to take the Tech Savvy Mama brand global, it has gone au revoir or kaput. However, I was able to take a fab ulous trip last week While it wasn’t on Swiss Air or Lufthansa as pl anned and didn’t involve a passport, I was upgra de d to the A group and was able to choose my own seat on this flight: Rather than spending time in the South of France, I was still able to enjoy some great beach time

Mobility Scooters – 3 Wheel or 4 Wheel
Mobility Scooters are often the perfect solution for those who have difficulty walking, but want to maintain their independence and manage everyday tasks on their own. It is important that you choose mobility scooters that fit your lifestyle, abilities and plans. Considerations such as where and when the mobility scooter will be used, weight capacity, battery life, maneuverability, ease of transport, scooter speed and leg room can make all the difference in how much you enjoy your scooter. You may consider getting more than one scooter to cover indoor mobility, shopping and portability plus all-terrain mobility, long distances and comfort. Two very difference vehicles. Mobility scooters are not a good option for those who cannot sit erect for long periods or do not have the manual dexterity or strength to operate the controls.
