Cash for appliances: More cash in RI, more appliances in CA
The most populous and smallest states are making changes to their cash for appliances programs. California officials will vote Wednesday to extend that state's languishing program to include more appliances, while Rhode Island officials have restarted its wildly successful program

Adding ALT Tags to Images
After posting about meeting with the Yahoo Accessibility Lab , all of my posts going forward will include ALT tags for images. ALT tags are included with an images HTML to ensure those who use screen readers due to visual impairment will know what images are included on a web page. Usually when you upload a picture to a blog or website, the HTML for an image looks something like this: “img src= “http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wWPy3_-vkD0/TEQDsoV5OgI/AAAAAAAADtk/XbVXjzpFYXg/s320/IMG_2239.jpeg” alt=”" id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495521510577224194″ Not so pretty, is it

Back from Yahoo MotherBoard Summit With So Much to Share!
First of all, let me apologize to my Twitter followers and Facebook friends for the endless tweets and updates about all the fun that me and fellow Yahoo! MotherBoard members (#YMotherBoard) had during our trip. I know what it is like to be the one at home following the hashtag because I’m usually that blogger

In the Air with our Sony PSP!
From long security lines, cancelled flights, weather delays, to antsy children, traveling can be quite trying but luckily our flight was a dream! Our carry-ons were packed full of gadgets and snacks to keep us entertained and well fed for the cross country flight. As you can see, the PSP was a huge hit! Little Miss Techie continues to love the digital comics and we are currently searching for games that are not only appropriate for almost 4 year old Captain Computer, but also ones that are easy for his little hands to operate. Even though our kids didn’t exhaust the current content, I know that I’ll have some new games and comics loaded on to our PSP for our return flight or perhaps they can watch the Tooth Fairy since we didn’t even have time to start it during our trip! And that’s a good thing! If you know of any easy to operate games for our soon-to-be 4 year old, feel free to leave a comment! Your comment counts as another entry to win the $50 Sony PlayStation Network gift card! I was invited to participate in the PSP Summer Family Fun blogger program by Sony Corporate Entertainment America and share my experiences using the PSP.

Tragic Tale of Sexting at Yahoo MotherBoard Summit Serves as Chilling Reminder of Importance of Internet Safety
The Yahoo MotherBoard Summit agenda was jam packed with tons of information but I was most interested in the Online Safety Roundtable featuring Catherine Teitelbaum, Policy Director for Yahoo Safely and Anne Toth who serves as the Vice President and Head of Privacy for Yahoo. After a welcome, Catherine Teitelbaum showed us a video featuring a local mother and father remembering their beautiful, smart, and talented teenage daughter who took her life because of a topless photo that she sent as a sext to a boy in her high school. The boy forwarded the photo to one friend and the friend sent it to another friend and on and on and on.

Throughout the 2010 cycling season, LIVE STRONG and its partners have raised awareness of the world’s cancer burden and the people fighting against the disease. And on the final day of the Tour de France Lance Armstrong and Team RadioShack made one last statement, celebrating the completion of the Tour by wearing jerseys emblazoned with the number 28, a symbol of support for the 28 million people living with cancer

Inspiration from the Market
As a cook, I go through food ruts. Those times when not even Emeril can convince me that a generous sprinkling of “BAM!” will resuscitate my flat-lining passion for chicken.

You can be a water miser and still quench a thirsty lawn
Just when homeowners have become fed up with high temperatures and scorched lawns, a report from the National Resources Defense Council (PDF) says that more than 1,100 counties—or more than one-third of those in the contiguous 48 states—will face higher risks of water shortages by mid-century. Of those, 400 counties in 14 states are of particular concern. The cause, says the NRDC, is global warming.

Access Ramps – Choosing the Right Length
Choosing the right length access ramp is pretty easy once you have the formulas. All you need is a tape measure, a calculator or the handy Ramp Slope Chart (see below) and a keen understanding of what you’re trying to accomplish and you’ll be able to buy a ramp with the right amount of incline. You don’t want the ramp to be too steep, right? In fact, the length of the ramp is at least as critical as the width when it comes to safety, but takes some thought and a little planning. Once you have the length calculated, you can choose the proper width and type of ramp – depending on how and where it will be used. What a relief to know you will be able to get your mobility scooter into the van; assist an elderly or disabled person up the porch steps; or roll your wheelchair down a terraced walkway with the greatest of ease and safety. Our buddies at Prairie View Industries ( PVI Ramps ) shared their ramp slope formulas, ramp slope chart and measurement instructions so we could help you calculate your optimal ramp length. Thanks PVI! How Long Should My Ramp Be? To determine your ramp length you first need to determine the rise . The rise is the vertical measurement between the ground and where the top of the ramp is going to sit. Note: If your rise is more than 24″ (2 feet) please contact a local dealer about a modular system.

We Need Your Help
Last month we told you that LIVE STRONG is conducting an anonymous survey to learn about how cancer has affected people’s lives. Whether you’ve had cancer or a loved one has had cancer, we want to hear from you . The information that we collect from the survey helps shape what programs we offer to people affected by cancer.

Spanish Verdejo: Patio-Loving Wine
I’ve always been a fan of white wines made from the Verdejo grape. It’s the signature grape of Spain’s Rueda region, located in the northwest part of the country. Most of my experience with Verdejo reminded me of Sauvignon Blanc: a crisp, dry, easy-drinking white without a whole lot of complexity or richness

Building a “Learning Healthcare System” for Cancer Research and Care
I can go to the Treasury Department’s website and find out with certainty what the national debt is to the penny, today. I can go to any ATM, withdraw money from my own account, and get an immediate balance. And with a few touches on an iPhone, I can identify my exact location anywhere in the States, search for restaurants within a half-mile radius, have a meal, and submit my review of the restaurant afterwards

Who Needs The Mediterranean
Most years at around this time, I feel the need for a nice relaxing break in the sunshine. Usually, I head for the Mediterranean – that idyllic little corner of Europe where the sun always shines, the beaches are pure and white, and life moves at a rather more sedate pace than we are used to.
