By the Numbers: 2009 Thanksgiving meal cheaper than last years
$42.91 Average cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10, down about 4 percent from last year's average of $44.61, according to the American Farm Bureau , an agribusiness lobbying group. The same meal cost $28.74 in 1986, the first year the AFB started tracking the price of the holiday meal. “Consistent with the retail food price declines seen throughout the year, consumers will pay just a bit less for their Thanksgiving feast this year,” said Jim Sartwelle, an economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation, in a press release

I’ll be straight up: when I first heard about Movember , a grassroots fundraising effort started a few years ago by four Aussies sitting around drinking beer, my first thought was, “Hah! That’s how most bad Texas news stories begin, quickly followed by the phrase, “Betcha can’t do this…” I then learned how they had managed to coerce 34 friends down in Australia to Grow a Mo’ (Mo being slang for a ‘stache Down Under) and they raised around $50K for prostate cancer research. “Good on ya, mate,” as they would say. Since then, they have essentially exploded, raising around $24 million last year and are on target for ~$40 million this year

Fame Most parents will make it a priority to establish a good routine at bedtime, but if it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, Amanda Peet and David Benioff might take the cake! During a Thursday appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman , the 37-year-old actress said that her 2 ½-year-old daughter Frances ‘Frankie’ Pen “is a very good sleeper” who “doesn’t wake up at all in the night.” The couple are so pleased with the shuteye they log, however, they go to great lengths to repeat the process. “My sister and her husband make fun of us all the time because we’re sort of like baseball players,” Amanda explains. “We have to … keep her surroundings exactly the same.” The couple use blackout shades in Frankie’s room, and then add layers of “various articles of dark clothing, like David’s sock and scarf to make it really, really dark,” Amanda explains

Americans are adopting some green behaviors, but according to this recent Wall Street Journal report , they aren't going with the flow when it comes to water-conserving showerheads. That news jibes with a survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Center on green behavior , which found that 83 percent of Americans run their dishwasher only with full loads but only 27 percent of Americans have installed a low-flow showerhead
