How Does Your Garden Grow?
I haven’t been to my house in Arkansas this May; instead, I’ve stayed in the city with my baby grand-daughter. I have missed the flowers of Arkansas although I really prefer the city

The Emerald Days of May
I love May, the month of my birthday, for its flowers, green leafy beginnings shooting from the ground, and for the life that suddenly moves from inside stuffy houses to the fresh and fragrant outdoors. I always think of it as the month of emeralds, and the emerald is truly an appropriate birthstone for May. I love working with emeralds and I especially like to combine them with other gemstones

Update on Letting Customers “Design Their Own Jewelry”
A couple of years ago I wrote about the trend of offering customers some “design your own jewelry” options. People LOVE having the opportunity to “create” or personalize their own items from a set of simple choices, and it can be a huge selling point. (However, I recommend limiting each option to a maximum of about 6

What are the little twisty things called that are used to attach jewelry to cards?
Kind of a dumb question, but I need to know what people use to secure their necklaces to cards? I have seen little pieces of white wire used to keep necklaces

For Graduation: The Colours of Spring and Summer
More bracelets in the colours of Spring! The jade bracelet above celebrates the colour of the season – turquoise! Faceted rectangles of turquoise jade are complemented by purple and pink jade, including a carved pink jade tulip and also spring green carved flowers in jade. The second strand is a sterling silver chain with dangles of turquoise jade. It’s the perfect Spring/Summer bracelet with all those colours that we traditionally associate with the two seasons.

Gemstones and Abalone with a Necklace or Two
March is almost over, and it’s cherry blossom time. For me, this means several different things: my darling grand-daughter will be one year old, Washington will be inundated with tourists (and traffic) hoping to find the perfect confluence of blossoms, warm weather and sunlight to view what is truly one of Nature’s lovely sights, and I am a month closer to a trip to Africa

Cloisonne Bracelets and Pearl Necklaces
I have a terrible case of Spring Fever, made all the worse by allergies and being too busy to do almost anything other than work (and the allergies seem to make me sleepy – whatever I do I can’t seem to get enough sleep lately!). So those are my excuses for not posting for such a long time and for the brief post today

Swarovski, Swarovski, and Gemstones
Not officially part of the Spring Collection, but still an integral part of the Cluny Grey Jewelry Collection are our Swarovski crystal pieces. Whether the crystals stand alone in a jewelry piece or are mixed with freshwater pearls, as we often do, or with gemstones, Swarovski crystals are classics and the jewelry pieces we make from them are classic also. Above, this Swarovski crystal handmade necklace i s very special with its two circles of golden crystals defining the ends of the necklace and the special Swarovski crystal rings hanging from them

More for Spring!
The Spring Collection continues with jewelry pieces in the newest Spring colours. And two of the newest colours for Spring in one of my favorite bracelets are the two colours mixed in the citrine bracelet above . The yellow is called Aurora (this citrine is perfect) and the other colour represented by Botswana agate and specially chosen rondelles of ocean jasper is a grey called eucalyptus.

Can Spring Be Far Behind?
After 55 inches of snow this year, a new record here in Washington, D.C./Arlington since 1899, it feels strange to think that it is almost March and that, despite the mounds of snow everywhere (there are still some large 5 -6 feet tall mounds) Spring is just around the corner! Spring means new jewelry – LOTS of new jewelry! And the Spring colours this year are wonderful, or at least I think so, probably because one of the biggest colours for Spring is my favorite – turquoise.

Yes, We’ve Had Some Snow!
Actually we’ve had rather a lot of snow here in the Washington, D.C., Arlington area! I am loving it! The federal government has been closed for the third day in a row, and will be closed tomorrow. For the first time today, I looked out and saw that the major streets I live on had not been cleared – still haven’t

Using Live Models when Photographing Jewelry – Yes or No?
What do you think about using live models when photographing your jewelry pieces that you plan to sell? This question came up recently when jewelry artist Roslyn asked whether I recommend using people to model jewelry for photos. Actually, I can see both sides of this issue

Lazy Sundays
I love the sound of “lazy Sundays” although mine are usually not lazy at all. I often spend them working on photographs and the website if I’ve been able to make any jewelry that week. But I still love the concept and even though I’m working, it’s as though the work isn’t really work since I’m doing it on Sunday! It may be January, but I am busy working on new Spring jewelry; meanwhile, here are some pieces that will be on the website in the next day or two if they are not already

January’s Specials!
January’s weather has turned from snow to rain; I can’t wait for more snow! I am working (and have been on the new Spring jewelry for this year, and there’s something about a heavy coating of snow on the ground that is inspirational when it comes to jewelry. Meanwhile, I’ve also been getting ready for Valentine’s Day and working on a special page of earrings! Above are two bracelets featuring the Red Magma colour from Swarovski; I love this colour, a muted orangey red with a deep tone

Are You Ready for Valentine’s Day?
One of the favorite gifts for Valentine’s Day (in years past anyway) has got to be bracelets, necklaces, and earrings made of aquamarine. So here are some new aquamarine pieces that will be up on the site within the next day or two. Above, an aquamarine bracelet with sharply faceted nuggets of wonderful practically inclusion-free crystal quartz, and smaller nuggets of aquamarine.

Garnet: The January Birthstone
Did you know that the garnet was named after a fruit? The ancient Greeks thought that garnets looked like the seeds of the pomegranate – thus, garnet! In the Bible, garnet is mentioned fairly often, usually called carbuncle
