The Scrapped Table Panels Make a Comeback
After working so hard on the panels for the original bedside table design in J & A’s bedroom, I just couldn’t bring myself to throw the things away. I mean, I really put a lot of time into those, but my original idea for them was a complete bust.

Two Penny-Pinching Projects
Today I wanted to share with you two more little projects I did for J & A’s master bedroom. (The big reveal is coming up this week. I just have to get my photographer, a.k.a., my retired photographer mom with the fancy camera, over to the house to take some beautiful photos! My little point and click camera just won’t do the job.)First up, I needed to make another pillow.

The Virtual Becomes Reality:: Glimpses of Bailey’s Bedroom
Remember Bailey’s Virtual Room (re)Design that I showed you a few days ago?I spent the whole day yesterday helping Bailey and her mom, Cassandra, with a couple of projects.First was the slipcover for the KLOBO loveseat from Ikea. All I did yesterday was get everything pinned. I still have to sew it together. It just looks like a big ‘ole mess right now, huh

A Lesson In Following Instructions (and the Difference That Dry-Brushing Can Make)
Have you ever actually read the instructions on the back of a can of spray paint? I know, I know…the writing is tiny, it’s not very interesting, and the “how to” of using a can of spray paint seems pretty elementary. But really, those directions are there for a reason.Believe it or not, I read the directions on every brand that I use, because they’re all a little different

Customizing Ready-Mades
I have to admit, over the past five years, I’ve become a bit of a “custom-made” snob–custom window treatments, custom bedding, custom upholstery, custom everything. I will use ready-made items only if I have to, and when it comes to window treatments, I generally just refuse outright. Once you’ve dealt with gorgeous fully-lined, interlined, professionally-made window treatments, it’s really

My Butcherblock Countertops Seven Months Later (and I Spy a Problem)
Well, it’s been seven months since I got my butcherblock countertops from Ikea. I still love them today just as much as when I first got them, and I’m still amazed at how they warmed up my kitchen.Remember what I had before?(This was taken when I was re-making and painting thecabinet doors, which is why they’re all missing.)That laminate countertop was standard apartment-grade cheapness

Julia’s Kitchen Progress (and What’s Wrong With This Picture?)

Fabulously Inexpensive Draperies
Happy Thursday to you! First of all, let me say a huge thank you to all of you who offered feedback yesterday on this post and on the A2D Facebook page. It really was so helpful to learn where my readers are coming from…and so nice to hear that the lack of comments isn’t because you don’t find my posts interesting or helpful (that was my fear–that I’ve become a boring blogger with nothing

A Crazy Tale of a (Quite Unexpected) Kitchen Remodel
Remember these chairs that I showed you about six weeks ago?Well, let me tell you…this project has been one adventure after another.Initially, Julia called me because she had inherited her mother’s quintessential 1950s chrome/vinyl dining chairs and chrome/Formica dining table.

Beautiful Black Doors (and a Few Random Updates)
This weekend, I painted the doors in J & A’s master bedroom. I must now say that black doors are my new favorite thing. I mean, just a simple coat (or two) of black paint took average, run-of-the-mill doors and turned them into eye-popping design statements. Here’s what the doors looked like before…just your everyday six-panel door. And now….Gorgeous!! I mean, those are no boring doors!I

Does It Look Like A Headboard Yet?
Well, it doesn’t look like a pretty one just yet.I promise you that the heat hasn’t affected my mind! Well, maybe just a little. After all, yesterday was my fourth day of working outside in the heat all day long, and the temp was 99 degrees! It has, however, affected the speed at which I work.
