Introducing Sean Coleman, fellow blogcatalog blogger known as Scole . Sean loves music! He writes about it on his blog called “pod”. Why did he call it pod? “Write the word “pod” in lower case letters.
A Notice from BlogCatalog’s CEO Yahoo recently announced that it was evaluating the possible sale or closure of MyBlogLog. For us, the BlogCatalog team, it serves as a reminder that any company that is complacent runs the risk of dying. This fact is made more poignant given that MyBlogLog was one of the most innovative social media networks of the past decade.
Upon researching the Blog Catalog directory for inspiration for my weekly Blog Catalog blog post, I happened upon the most charming, stylish, artistic and entertaining blog ever… Sunday Magazine Paper Doll Challenge.
F rom the BlogCatalog Community Blog This week LotusB has shared some great information about Twitter and WordPress with us. Cheryl enlisted the help of Joel Williams from Blog Tech Guy to give us some information on what a splog is and if bloggers should be worried about them
Mostly everyone in the Blog Catalog community is aware of the basic rules of blogging; hosts, tags, comment management, etc. Bloggers also know that the lifeline of their blog is the Really Simple Syndication (RSS) tool
Have you always wanted to meet someone who lives in Finland? Please welcome Antti Kokkonen from zemalf.com with his answer to a question I’ve been wondering about. As I’ve visited blogs, I’ve noticed certain bloggers enjoying lively discussions with their readers – all taking place in the comments section of their blogs.
With my stint in Houston a few days behind me, and a much needed vacation stretching out before me, all I’m left with are the few freelance jobs I’ve taken on to keep me busy. So waking up early is….well, just an option. I can meander from under my covers as early (or late) as I want, and while enjoying the benefits of my new found liberty, I wondered how the rest of Blog Catalog feels about waking up. The discussion topic this week was simply, “What’s the First Thing You Do When You Wake Up?”. The responses came in a pretty wide variety. Going pee first thing was a trending response, as was saying a quick prayer. HaplessHermit even said he cries first thing in the morning. But the most common answer seemed to be ignoring (or abusing) that good ole faithful alarm clock. Scenexg responded that he’ll “hit the snooze button 7 times” before he gets out of bed every morning. Jaspuri chimed in that his alarm, which is an app on his mobile phone, won’t allow him to hit the snooze button until he’s solved a maze and a math puzzle! My praises go out to Jaspuri for having more strength than I. I punch my blackberry when it doesn’t open Google fast enough, I can only imagine what I’d do if it wouldn’t shut up at 5 AM

The other day I came across an article by a woman who claimed to have the secret to finding your life partner. This woman chose to work for 18 years on herself with experimental therapy, holistic meditation techniques and read books and took classes all for the betterment of her own self. She wanted to erase all of her inner demons, all of her insecurities. Then after nearly two decades of seeking love within herself, she found her life partner and they lived happily ever after. Kind of like a new-age Cinderella, no? Well, despite the skeptic that I am, I actually took something she said to heart: I knew, even then, that if I kept up any sort of pretense and tried to be something that I was not, then I would only meet men who had similar masks and armor and, in the long-term, none of my relationships would ever work. Like a beam of light striking my eyes, suddenly I felt like the way this lady described her thinking made total sense. Every relationship we have, we enter it usually wearing expectations and ideas of who we are. If we haven’t taken the time to get to know ourselves, how can we really know who we are? Most of what we know about our-self is product of what we’ve been through and what we’ve seen. So when you leave one relationship broken hearted, and you don’t take time to work through it, you may enter the next relationship suspicious or jaded or in a hurry to get to the disappointment.
I thought he was out of his mind when he suggested we be together. The “together” part would prove difficult, since I was living in Houston, TX through the winter and he lived in California. The idea of missing the one person in the world you love the most on a constant basis is about as appealing as living in a refrigerator, but when compared to the alternative…it can prove to be an adventure and definitely a test of love. My boyfriend and I came up with some guidelines that so far have proved to keep our relationship going. They go something like this: Yap it Up.
Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer-And How to Prevent Getting It in the First Place
World Cancer Day is marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. As a way to acknowledge the day and to find out more about how to help yourself or others, take a look at what Suzanne Somer’s has to say about her cancer journey and the alternative therapies that she’s investigated. Suzanne Somers’ 19 th book was written as a result of being misdiagnosed with full body cancer in November 2008. Suzanne says that her doctor told her to prepare herself and her family for the end. See Suzanne Somers discuss Knockout (via Spruce TV) It makes me wonder, if something like that can happen to someone with Suzanne’s resources, what else is happening that we never hear about. “Knockout” is a series of interviews with patients who’ve received alternative medical treatments and the doctors or medical practitioners who prescribe these different types of treatments. It’s always one of the top ten New Year’s resolutions people make – getting organized. For me personally, this meant cleaning out my closets and organizing my jewelry, both of which I have already accomplished
BloggersUnite for Haiti: Cash Needed For Relief Efforts
From what I’ve read throughout the day cash is desperately needed by the aid organizations heading up relief efforts in Haiti after the devastating earthquake that rocked the small island nation. This cash will be used for everything from medical supplies to food. I found a list of reputable organizations that are taking donations on a Fox news site: -The Red Cross is asking the public to make financial donations to the International Relief Fund by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or online at http://www.redcross.org -Donors may also text “HAITI” to “90999″ and a donation of $10 will be given to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts
In the light of the recent allegations that well-known and established retailers H&M and Wal-Mart purposely destroyed and disposed of apparel rather than donating it to homeless shelters or any other nonprofit charity, it’s time that all Americans reflect upon their own personal choices on what to do with used items they no longer want.
As with any new venture, we all learn as we go and eventually gain experience and knowledge. I am still in my first year with blogging, and granted I have learned a lot, but I have so much more to learn. I have many goals for my blog in 2010 and I am going to really focus on its growth. I want to gain more readers, create great content, and reach new heights.
