title pic Real Party: Catherine Bell Baby Shower

Today’s real party is an adorable baby shower thrown in honor of Catherine Bell, star of Lifetime’s show Army Wives, who is expecting a baby boy in August. This intimate shower was hosted by Cottonelle and guess who was in attendance. The cuddly Cottonelle puppies! Babies and puppies – can it get any better than that

I’ve been meaning to post about The Lollicake Bakeshop ‘s adorable cake pops for a while and will do a more extensive post at some point but couldn’t resist the adorableness of these graduation cupcake pops (via Flickr ). They’re in Denver, Colorado (with a satellite location in Boston), which I wish I’d known when I visited, though I will be back and will be sure to contact them.

title pic Orange strawberry poppyseed mini cupcakes, $1 each, Hester Street Fair, NYC

I stopped by the Hester Street Fair today to visit Kumquat Cupcakery , one of our favorites, who is also selling this weekend at the Brooklyn Flea. Her mini cupcakes are $1 each and she had 5 flavors on offer. The orange strawberry poppyseed cupcakes, which were delicious and not too overpowering (I’m not a huge orange fan), a dark chocolate mini cupcake that was wonderful, as well as chocolate peanut butter, lemon lavender and red velvet.

Reader Kim (whom I suspect is a photographer) sent in this shot of her son Elijah enjoying his first-birthday cupcake. It might be hard to find a shot more adorable than this one. Elijah’s now four years old — I can’t wait to see his next birthday cupcake shot!

title pic PattyCakes mini cupcake delivery from NJ

New Jersey cupcakery PattyCakes just sent me a box of bite-size do-it-yourself cupcakes to taste, photograph and review: I don’t recall it being marked perishable , but it did arrive two days after it was mailed (a Monday to Wednesday travel schedule). First thing I noticed was the cute packaging: The packing peanuts are made out of corn starch and dissolve in water. That was a BIG plus to me, as I detest Styrofoam and the wastefulness of most packing materials

title pic Zebra cupcakes at Disney Food Blog

Over at The Disney Food Blog , AJ posted about these amazing-looking zebra cupcakes! It’s clearly the Disney dining equivalent of avant garde artwork — a representation of a zebra vs. an actual molded animal, as you find in the White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake, also sold at Kusafiri Bakery.

Today I’m reviving an old weekly tradition here on Half Baked. Back when I owned my cake shop in Dallas, I would feature one new cake design each week that stood out as my favorite. Even though I mainly write about cakes and parties now, I still fall in love with fabulous new cake designs, created by talented cake artists across the country.
