Magnolia Bakery to open cupcake bakery in Dubai
I saw this press release about New York’s famous Magnolia Bakery opening an outpost in Dubai and for a moment was like, “Is it April Fool’s Day?” Mainly because all the hype has been about their long-awaited Grand Central Station bakery (opening in late February is the latest word) and their Los Angeles outpost (opening in April). Here’s the relevant part of the release: Magnolia Bakery, renowned for its old fashioned, freshly baked desserts, today announced the grand opening of its Dubai annex, the first such location outside of the United States. Through an exclusive territorial license agreement, the new bakery, located in the Bloomingdale’s home store within The Dubai Mall, will be managed and operated by Al Tayer Insignia, the luxury retail company of Al Tayer Group.

Sorry I’ve been MIA, I’m back and apropos of this post, will have a full writeup of my Georgetown Cupcake visit sometime this week. For now, breaking cupcake news…another cupcake reality show! From The Washington Examiner : Well, for now, they’re giving out the “no comment” line, but for weeks the co-founders of Georgetown Cupcake, Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis, have been gabbing about their impending stardom while out and about in town. And with one too many bloggers picking up the dish, their secret is out of the bag: Georgetown Cupcake will be the set of a new reality television show to air on TLC.

Mardi Gras cupcakes at Louisana’s Curl’s Cupcakes
For Mardi Gras, Curl’s Cupcakes in West Monroe, Louisiana, is selling these very colorful cupcakes, via their Facebook page (yes, Facebook is this cupcake blogger’s BFF): They’re also selling Super Bowl New Orleans Saints cupcakes, but I didn’t see any photos of those, though apparently they are selling quite well. From the Albany Times-Union – again, the umpteenth reminder for bakeries (or anyone, really) – if you are going to court the press, your website should be up and running so people can get information about you. I know many of you don’t care, and this is a cupcake blog, not a business or internet blog, but still; if your potential customers have nothing to go on, no phone number, no photos, nothing but a news article, how can they check you out?
